Greetings PAS Members!

Last Week’s Recap

The Briggs & Veselka firm visit was a huge success!  In total, 25 PAS members attended the event.  Members were able to see the inside workings of an accounting firm during tax season and learned from employers their insight on what it’s like working there. This past Saturday, members came together for Rodeo training.  We appreciate all of our members that showed up and are willing to assist PAS further during the Rodeo.

Upcoming Events

The College of Business Career Fair is this week! Thursday and Friday you should take advantage of networking with recruiters, even if you will not be applying.  Having the right contacts in the industry will be extremely beneficial to your career in the long run.  Also, do not forget that VITA is doing taxes for everyone until April 16th.  Even if you decided not to volunteer, you can still have your taxes done by your peers for FREE!  The rodeo begins on March 1st.  Those of you that will be participating should have contacted our committee chair with the dates you would like to volunteer.  Lastly, this week you have the opportunity to gain a skill set at the Data Analytics event being held in the COB building and the main building!  Look forward to our second general meeting to be held next week, the 2nd and 3rd of March! COB Career Fair

This week is the College of Business Career Fair! Numerous companies will be attending the event with intentions to hire ambitious and hardworking students such as yourselves.  You can expect to see companies that can provide you with the career that we are all trying to obtain by working towards our degrees. The Career Fair will take place in the college of business building over a span of 2 days. The first day will be February 25th, from 4pm-7pmFebruary 26th, from 1pm-4pm, you will have your second chance at making an impression with potential employers.   Click Here for a list of employers that will be recruiting on these days.  During this event,  make sure you are dressed in business professional attire and have multiple printed resumes on hand ready to distribute.

Now Hiring!

Looking to obtain an internship for the Winter of 2017?  KPMG, one of the Big 4, currently has an internship listed on Jobs for Gators. KPMG is a global network of professional firms providing auditing, tax and advisory services.  If public accounting is not for you, CenterPoint Energy listed a Summer accounting internship recently.  Make sure to take advantage of these opportunities and more.  The College of Business also offers mock interviewing with the business advisers to prepare you for an actual interview. Visit Jobs for Gators  to apply for jobs and to schedule your mock interview before Career Fair next week!

Volunteer at the Rodeo!

The Aramark committee is currently looking for a co-chair to assist our committee chair Bowen Shepard with the organization of the rodeo.  What is better than saying that you are a member of the Professional Accounting Society?  Adding you are one of PAS’ leaders to your resume shows potential employers you actively participate rather than merely show up to the meetings.  If you are interested in this position, email our committee chair at pas.aramarkchair@gmail.com.  Another way you can actively participate is to volunteer with the Aramark committee at the Houston Rodeo.  To fund PAS’ operations and events, we need to generate revenue.  Having our members volunteer a little of their time at the Rodeo this semester will allow us to fund events such as informational panels and the end of year networking event. The rodeo will be from March 1st to March 20th.  Participation in all 20 days is not required; however, we are asking everyone to a least volunteer for one day.  If you are interested in participation or need more information, fill out the required formsand email them to pas.aramarkchair@gmail.com.

Second General Meeting

Next week we will be hosting our second general meeting of the semester.  For those of you who have purchased a PAS polo, you will have the chance to pick them up during the meeting.  The purpose of our general meetings is to keep our members informed on the events and opportunities within PAS, the College of Business, and the community.  In addition, this is also a great time for our members to suggest ideas they may have that will be beneficial to PAS and its members. We would love to hear your suggestions!  The meetings will be held on the following days:

Wednesday, March 2nd from 12pm-1pm
Thursday, March 3rd from 7pm-8pm

CPA Exam Game Plan

Roger CPA Review will be giving a presentation on the strategy behind tackling the CPA Exam.  Topics will include scheduling sections of the exam, the time management aspect of the application process and the upcoming changes and strategy differences from the 2015-2016 version versus the 2017 version.  CPA Exam reviews can be very expensive.  PAS is offering to you the chance to learn invaluable information regarding the exam for FREE!  Join us on March 10th from 2pm-4pm in room B113 to take advantage of this golden opportunity and learn about the test we are all looking forward to taking.  The event will be open to all members and non-members, however business casual wear is required.
