About Larry Jones
Larry G. Jones was managing partner of the Houston office of Deloitte & Touche LLP, where he had worked for 35 years. Beyond being an astute businessman, Larry was a friend and mentor who cared deeply about the organization for which he worked, its people, the community, and his family.
In 2002, the University of Houston-Downtown honored Larry as an Outstanding Volunteer for his work as chairman of the Red Rose Ball fund-raising event in 1999 and 2000. He also headed the University of Houston-Downtown President’s Advisory Council.
Larry served his community through active involvement with Junior Achievement of the Southwest, Dress for Success, the United Way, the Greater Houston Partnership, and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center holiday card project.
Larry was born September 12, 1948, in Paris, Texas and graduated from Paris High School in 1966. In 1970, Larry graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. He joined Deloitte & Touche shortly after graduation.
Criteria for Eligibility
Scholarships are renewable and shall be awarded annually to provide financial aid and assistance to undergraduate students who:
- Are enrolled in UHD full-time
- Demonstrate financial need
- Pursue the study of an Accounting major or
- Are working toward a professional certification in Accounting
- Maintain a minimum of 3.25 GPA
